The state is one of the only five states without comprehensive insurance coverage for hurricane victims, and homeowners will be covered under the new state law.
However, homeowners must purchase additional coverage for the cost of the insurance policy.
The law was approved after a series of court battles.
As of January 2019, homeowners will have to pay $2,500 for the coverage of the two storm-related storm sewer systems that service the state.
However that will be reduced to $1,500 by 2021.
The other storm sewer system will continue to have hurricane coverage for three years.
